PPC targeting, categories and keywords

Can I target my ad to geographic locations?
Your Pay Per Click ad will be most effective if you target the right audience. Where are most of your customers located? If you're a local barber, it makes sense to target your local area. If your services or products are more widely available, expand your reach for potential customers to your entire metro area, your entire state or nationwide.

Does targeting by location affect where my ad will appear?
Yes. While there are a number of factors that determine ad postition, ads that most closely match the location information that users have entered are much more likely to appear.

For example, a user looking for a hardware store in Cleveland would consider a hardware store in Cleveland to be more relevant than a hardware store somewhere in the state of Ohio. SuperPages.com will give precedence to the advertiser who targeted the Cleveland metro area over the advertiser who just targeted the state of Ohio.

Can I tailor my ads to serve different areas?
Yes. It's a great way to position your business with potential customers! You will simply need to create separate ads for each target area.

What are my options when I target my ads by location?
Targeting options include cities and towns, metro areas, states and nationwide. To submit an ad target to cities and towns you need to specify an existing business listing or use your local ZIP code.

Can my ad target regional areas (multiple states or metro areas)?
Yes. You have the option to select the states and or metro areas that you wish to target. You can also exclude specific areas that you do not wish to target.

Can I have more than one ad in a target location?
No. However, businesses can place an ad for each of their locations. So, a dry cleaning business with three stores in Boston, could simultaneously run a Boston Metro ad and three ads for each location. Businesses without a physical location cannot run Pay Per Click ad targeted to cities and towns.

Do I need to have a physical presence in order to target a specific location?
For ads targeted to cities or towns you must have a physical location in the area. For ads targeted to metros, states, or nationwide, there is no requirement to have a physical presence.

What is a category?
A category is a type of business, or line of business (i.e., Hotels, Attorneys, Florists, etc.). Categories are part of the SuperPages.com search methodology. When users enter a search term they may be presented with a set of categories from which to choose or refine their search. Your ad will appear when a user selects a category in which your ad appears.

What are the advantages of categories vs. keywords?
SuperPages.com simplifies the process by using pre-defined categories customers are already familiar with. They've been tested and refined over years of publishing yellow pages directories. You can bid in categories proven to have a high degree of search relevancy. This eliminates the burden of having to test thousands of keywords and keyword combinations.

How do I know which categories are appropriate?
When you choose your categories you enter keyword terms and search for categories that are related. You can search as many times as you like to find the most appropriate categories. You can also browse all our categories by selecting broad topic areas and drilling down to more specific categories.
